Author Interview
Why did you write Confessions of an Introvert?
"I had been doing a lot of freelance writing for business magazines and a variety of websites, and people kept asking if I had thought about writing a book. I finally just decided that there was too much to say in just a single article or posting and began compiling my book. It originally was going to be a book on business networking, but it morphed into a business and self-help book for introverts. I see so many introverted business people looking to find greater success and I wanted to help them through my own experiences, and motivate them to reach their goals of greatness. As I wrote the book’s purpose became more clear, and my passion for the subject got stronger."
In the title, you refer to yourself as both an “introvert” and “the shy girl.” What is the difference and what do you consider yourself now?
"Well, not all introverts are shy, and not all shy people are introverts, but they do often go together. I would say that being an introvert is something that you are born with—a part of your personality that stays with you forever and being shy something that you may grow out of, or that comes and goes throughout your life depending on the other factors. Currently, I would say I am a socialized introvert, who is generally not too shy—at least not nearly as shy as I was a few years ago."
If your life were a movie, who would you like to play you?
"That’s a funny question! I guess it would have to be the actress that plays Meredith Grey, Ellen Pompeo, from Grey’s Anatomy. She would definitely be my first choice. I love how she plays intelligent and vulnerable—and we look enough alike that I think she would be a perfect me."
Where do you see yourself going with the book? Will there be more?
"I think that there are so many people, especially introverted people that can be helped by my message of strength, self-confidence and perseverance, that there must be more that I can give besides just this book. I haven’t developed a plan yet, but I suspect I will use the book to introduce me to the people out there who are yet unable to find their own success—but are driven to be and do more. There may be more books, or maybe I will continue to reach people through my website or blogs. I guess the answer will come in the popularity, (or not) of this book."
If you could sum up your book in one sentence, what would it be?
"Well, I have struggled with the best way it, but I think I have narrowed it down to this: Confessions of an Introvert is the handbook for the introverted business person destined for success."
